I started with Bushido in 1996 shortly after joining the Army back when we were at the old Edison Johnson Rec Center in Durham. I would drive the 2 hours up from Fort Liberty (then Fort Bragg) 3 times a week for class. Bushido taught me how to channel my ADHD and get myself to focus, it also helped to build my admittedly poor self-esteem and self-confidence. I have been able to use judo to not only defend myself while deployed to Iraq, but also to teach help teach others to protect themselves by assisting in teaching several women’s self-defense classes. The lessons I’ve learned from Bushido, lessons of self-discipline, focus, and self-confidence have served me well over the course of a 22-year Military Career, 10 years in Corrections, and life in general. I would heartily recommend the Bushido Judo School to anyone who wants to learn to be a better version of themselves.

Sensei Darian is a great teacher, mentor and life coach. My son has been part of Bushido since more than 3 years now and it has shaped his mind and self-esteem. Bushido is more than just a club.... it's family.

Years ago, I was a troubled kid. Always suspended from school and getting into trouble. I had little guidance in my home life, as a child to a single father of 4. I met a great friend at school. This friend, Josh, the son of Sensei Darian became one of my best friends and introduced me to Bushido Judo. Sensei Darian became my Sensei and my friend. Bushido's embrace of traditional martial arts training, hinging on respect, discipline and resilience gave me much needed guidance in my life. Sensei stokes consistently and selflessly invested his time and energy in my Judo and my personal growth, as well. I'm certain that all current and former Bushido can say the same. I have so much to say about my love for Judo and Bushido, specifically. You will never find a better place to learn traditional martial arts, camaraderie, discipline, and love. Bushido is a family and one that I am immensely proud to call my own.
